A cache of 21 slingstones was unearthed in a cultural deposit dating to as early as A. D. 1500 at Waipouli, Kaua'i. The slingstones are in various stages of completion which allowed for the formulation of a tentative sequence of manufacture for these objects.
Seven phases are described in the sequence from hexahedral-shaped blank to finished slingstone, based on criteria derived from a very limited number of observable characteristics including scars of reduction and shaping techniques.
