Ka-wai-hoa was ruling at the same time as Ka'eo and wanted Ka'eokčlani's Ni'ihau portions.

Ka'eo kč-lani ruled the northern portion of Ni'ihau. Strife between Ka'eo and Kawaihoa was resolved by building a rock wall across the southern portion of the island. To mark his side, Ka'eo's markers were of white stones and Kawaihoa's markers were black stones. Ka'eo eventually united the entire island with Kaua'i, helped by his two brothers:Kai-ana and Ka-hekili [half brother] of Maui.

On Ni'ihau, they landed at Kamakaua. Ka'eo didnt fight but his two brothers did. The battlefield was called Pali Kamakaua after the heaps of bodies. Kawaihoa was banished to the southern portion of the island.

Ka'eo married a high-born chiefess called Ka-maka-helelei.

A son was born to them in 1790 named Kaumuali'i.
