This particular site on the Wailua River is a part of the track of Lihu'e Plantation Co. The plantation was started in 1849 and although the rail system was not instituted at Lihu'e Plantation until 1892, it was the last plantation railroad in operation in the Hawaiian Islands, continuing into the late 1950s. The proposed pipeline will pass between the pylons on the north bank of the river.

Therefore, it is recommended that during construction of the pipeline particular care be taken to avoid damage to, and to avoid undermining any of these pylons. This will help ensure their continued presence until further studies of the plantation railroads of Kaua'i are done, and an inventory of remaining structures associated with the railroads can be completed. No other archaeological sites were located along the proposed pipeline realignment.
